Traditionally in Scotland and the American South – a way to announce financial freedom and the accomplishment of paying off your mortgage was to paint your fron door RED!!

Most residential doors open inwards for two reasons – the first is security. Historically, the hinges would have been on the outside of the building with an outwards swinging door and easier for a burglar to break in.  The second is weather – with extreme snow, a door might not be able to be opened!  One thing we don’t have to worry about in Arizona!

The door knob was invented in 1878 – before this there were door locks but only wealthy people could afford them.  Often people simply locked up any valuables in a box or chest.  Just 10 years later a door without a knob was patented…the Revolving Door.  In 1888 a door with three partitions was patented to help create an airlock to keep hot or cool air inside as well as keep street noise & smells away!
